Abstract
We present a case of a complex abdominal wall reconstruction in an 18 month old. The patient had an unusual abdominal wall hypoplasia resulting in significant laxity and left lateral abodominal bulging. Intra-operative findings revealed a unilateral absence of the transversus abdominis, lack of the inferior medial portion of the external oblique and lack of the superior medial portion of internal oblique. Preopeartive Imaging and intra-operative pictures further illustrate the unusal anatomy encountered. We describe a unique method for repair using PTFE mesh layed in between the hypoplastic muculature through a single low transverse incision. Additionally we review previously described congenital abdominal wall etiologies and methods for repair of abdominal wall hypoplasia.
