Patient Experience after Treatment with Facial Injectables in Resident Clinic Setting

Background: Training in aesthetic facial injection is an area of resident education that is difficult to achieve, as this self-pay patient population often does not want inexperienced trainees preforming their procedures making becoming proficient in injectables more difficult in resident education. The aim of this study is to evaluate patient satisfaction after receiving aesthetic facial injections in the resident injection clinic.
Methods: A standardized patient-reported outcome measure, FILLERS-Q (Facial Injectables: Longevity, Late and Early Reactions and Satisfaction Questionnaire), was sent to patients 2 weeks after receiving aesthetic facial injection with Botox and/or facial filler in the resident injection clinic (PGY 1-6). This survey measures satisfaction using a 5-point scale from "completely satisfied" (1) to "completely dissatisfied" (5).
Results: 18 patient seeking aesthetic facial injections in the resident clinic were included in the study. Overall, satisfaction with the soft tissue filler treatment was 1.0 (100% of patients "completely satisfied"). Average convenience score was 1.1 (94% "completely satisfied"). Satisfaction in change in appearance was 1.11 (89% "completely satisfied"). These results are compared with a previously published attending level study showing average scores of 1.4 for overall satisfaction, 1.25 for convenience, and 1.4 for change in appearance.
Conclusions:
In our study we found that patients were satisfied with resident aesthetic facial injection, convenience of treatment, and change in their appearance with satisfaction levels on par or better than published attending level surveys.
