Complications of breast implantation are common. It is estimated that
20 % of women who have breast implantation experience complications.
Complications of breast implantation are generally categorized as early and late .
We introduce a new term LATE LATE complications of breast implantation occurring many years after implantation. This new category includes lymphoma, autoinflation and breast capsular metaplasia. We present a case report of each of the two latter complications and a review of literature.
As we become more aware of the possibility of LATE LATE complications in an increasing number of aging patients with aging implants, we make a plea that it becomes incumbent upon Plastic Surgeons to follow and examine their patients for an indefinite period of time.
